How big of an issue is homelessness and how can I help decrease the amount of it without donating money?
On my way to Gateway mall, I was approached my a man with a homeless sign. It explained how he was deaf and it a veteran and had no place to go. I was overcome with much sympathy towards him. I walked to the road home nearby and wrote on a piece of paper how he could stay here if he went in and asked for help. I gave him $20 and sent him on his way. I looked around and saw numerous amounts of elders and children. I remember feeling so heart broken for them and wished I could give them all some money, but I knew I couldn't, therefore the proposal for my senior project was created.
Donating numerous amounts of baby clothes, men and women's clothes and shoes, has been a great experience. It was a bit nerve racking to ask of some extra clothes from my church, because they've done so much for me already, however I knew they would be more than happy to help. I enjoyed going to different houses and picked up bags of clothing from each. Some of the members of my church invited me into their homes and talked about their past experiences with marriage, war, parenting, and much more.
